Repudiation

Well, my dear, I guess you know where I stand now.

Part of me will always love her. You should know that. You should have thought about the consequences of your actions. You should have remembered my past with her. And most of all, you should never have let me get close to you. You told me once I was ordinary, and there was nothing special about me. Yet I have bested you twice now, when nobody else seems to be able to. I'm keeping what I've taken from you; I know you'll grow a new one, but the action will always be there. The look on my face as I tore your heart from your body will always be in your memories. Remember it, Lamia. Remember that look, because if you ever step against someone I care about again, I'll devote everything that I am to bringing you down. You know my threats are not idle, and you know what I am capable of.

I'm living a lie

Indignation

You're about to upset the 'impasse,' and I don't think you even know it. Not only that, but you've once again targeted someone who I care for. I'd be much less angry if you would just keep to bothering me, but you insist on complicating things. Will your stubborn stupidity ever cease to amaze me?

No matter. I've shown you what happens when you cross the line. Don't forget what I'm capable of, and remember that I haven't forgotten what you're capable of, either.

Rapture

It's true. I'm decidedly happy, for once. I've got a wife, a home, and a strange about of... normalcy. I say strange pointedly, because nothing about my life has been normal. We are happy, though not universally so, and I'm even more pleased because of it. True happiness is entwined with sadness; it's the low moments that make the high moments seem that much better.

I've still got my enemies. But for the time being, I think I can stop looking over my shoulder. 'phina will be pleased with that, for she's always complaining about my habit of wearing armor to bed. Old habits are hard to break, but I've done what I can for her. She's the first person to really... force me to change. For the better. I've mended myself, a bit, and she certainly helped me do that.

I haven't gotten that old wanderlust, either. Not yet, anyway. I hope that I don't, but I have a hunch that if I do, she'll follow me. She won't care. And that's why I love her.
